Angry Anderson joins Northern Beaches business owners in support of awareness for male depression

Two Northern Beaches business owners are thankful for the power of social media and how it brought them together with a cause that is all too frequently brushed aside.

Riding4aCause was created by three social media buddies who love to go motor bike riding, and started with their desire to take off on a road trip. It has now grown to 25 registered riders and is affiliated with the Black Dog Institute who raise funds and awareness for the very real disease of male depression.

The riders will start their journey on Father’s Day morning, a very poignant and significant day, from Deus ex Machina in Camperdown and will travel to Alice Springs, stopping at schools along to the way to spread the word about their cause and discuss the issues that surround this problem.

Supporting the cause in practical ways are two Northern Beaches business owners and residents, Paul Boxall from The Printing Company and Karen Morris from Inscriptions Media.

“This is an issue that is very important to me,” says Paul Boxall. “It’s something that has been brought to my attention again recently with a tragedy in the area, and something that has touched me personally in the past, losing close friends and family. Being involved with the guys means that I can help to make a difference by using my skills and resources rather than just handing over some money. By being able to offer the services of my business I know that I’m giving practical assistance in spreading the word about the issue.”

Karen Morris became involved with the cause through a social media connection with the three original riders and has again been able to offer practical assistance with the launch event, taking place on Sunday.

“I have three young boys and, having seen various members of my family suffer in a real way through depression, I’m acutely aware of how being involved and conscious of issues can make a difference to boys, in particular, as they’re growing up. The Riding4aCause boys are so dedicated to getting the message out there that it’s okay for boys to talk about feelings.”

Northern Beaches local, Angry Anderson, a long-time supporter of the Black Dog Institute, will be at the launch event on Sunday to support the boys and send them on their journey.
